Girls Talk is an eight-session prevention and anti-stigma program for girls, generally between the ages of 13-16. The focus is on preventing depression and educating girls about depression. Topics include depression, stress, body image, stigma, relationships and self-esteem. Girls Talk provides a safe space for young women to connect with each other and to learn about depression and its contributing factors. Participants develop self-awareness, coping strategies and criticial thinking skills through artistic and recreational activities. The activities can easily be tailored to the particular needs of each group. The Girls Talk program is not intended for those who have been diagnosed with or are in treatment for depression.
